Student Life

"Students will get to experience all that the Powell River Region has to offer, develop life-long friendships, and accelerate their education through English language immersion"...

The province of British Columbia is Canada’s western-most area, bordering the Pacific Ocean. Powell River is a city on the northern Sunshine Coast of southwestern British Columbia. Most of its population lives along the shoreline. With two intervening long, steep sided fjords inhibiting the construction of a contiguous road connection with Vancouver to the south, geographical surroundings explain Powell River’s remoteness as a community, despite a relative proximity to Vancouver and other populous areas of the BC Coast. This remoteness provides a unique Canadian experience; a mixture of pristine green living, along with various local sporting and other activities for students to enjoy.

Summer temperatures are comfortable and support a wide range of pursuits such as hiking, swimming, sailing, and biking. Winter temperatures almost never fall below freezing within the city, which allows for year-round out door activities. Although the city of Powell River receives very little snow world class ski resorts such as Whistler, the co-host village of the 2010 Winter Olympics, and Mount Washington are within a days travel.

While studying in our programs, students are placed by our homestay coordinator into Canadian homes. Homestay offers a truly unique experience; during their time in Powell River, students will get to experience all that the Powell River Region has to offer, develop life-long friendships, and accelerate their education through English language immersion.
